Green Cabbage Delight

This yummy vegan green cabbage recipe is a healthy choice since it’s sugar-free and only uses unrefined products. My husband doesn’t like cooked cabbage but for some reason he really enjoys this recipe. He likes the herbs I add to this recipe. I’m actually not yet quite satisfied with this recipe. Although my husband prefers the mixed herbs and oreganum I think I would rather like the cabbage to be smoother. By that I mean not biting on an herb from time to time. So for those of you who share my opinion…you can add your preferred spices instead of herbs.

Green Cabbage Delight

Ingredients

  • ½ of a Green Cabbage
  • ½ teaspoon Himalayan Salt (for soaking)
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • ½ cup White Unbleached Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Mixed Herbs (Optional)1
  • 1 tablespoon Oreganum (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Herbal Salt
  • 1 ½ cups of Water
  • ½ cup Coconut Milk (or any other milk alternative)

Instructions

    Chopping the Cabbage:
  1. Chop the cabbage into small pieces.
    Soaking and Cooking the Cabbage:
  1. Once you’ve chopped the cabbage let it soak in salt water for 20 minutes (add the ½ teaspoon of salt to the cold water). The water must cover the cabbage.
  2. After 20 minutes drain the water from the cabbage and place the cabbage in a pot. Cover the cabbage with fresh water (approximately 4 cups of water but this might differ depending on your cabbage size).
  3. When the cabbage starts to boil, remove the pot from the stove and drain the excess water.
    Now for the Sauce:
  1. In a different pot melt the coconut oil over low heat. Once it has melted add the flour, mixed herbs, oreganum and herbal salt.
  2. Once it makes an almost dough-like mixture add the water and milk.
  3. Mix it constantly to avoid lumps.
  4. Once it thickens and has a smooth consistency, add the cabbage. Add any other herbs to taste (if you choose).

Notes

1. The mixed herbs and oreganum can be changed to alternative herbs or spices you might prefer more.
